| The last picture is of 30th Street Station. If you are in the area at rush hour, 5 to 7 PM, try to move to another area of the city quickly. At 7, I've clocked 200 cars every 5 minutes running through this intersection. With most of those cars stupidly racing to the next red light, the hydrocarbon haze can get intense. Since it seems commuters love to drive their pollution pigs( SUV's ) into the city and these vehicles seem to pollute up to 10 times more than normal cars, the air can become unbearable. Although the editors of Car and Driver would have you believe the air pollution problem is solved, 30th street station gives evidence to the contrary. If you own another vehicle other than an SUV, please consider using that vehicle for your trip into the city. Pollute your suburban neighborhood to your hearts content. But, allow us in the city a slim chance for a breadth of fresh air. And finally, I can assure you, all the roads in Philadelphia are paved. You won't need off road capability on your visit to the city of brotherly love. |
