  • A new fast browser to run Java applets is the Opera browser. Download it with the latest Java Runtime. The Opera browser installs the Java 1.3 plugin which brings a rich solution to client side programming. Secondly, Opera has a nice "full screen" feature. By pressing the F11 key you get a real full screen, allowing your applet to get all of the screen real estate. Third, Opera promises to fully implement all internet standards. This is a new refreshing approach to browser design. Opera's implementation of the full standard has forced the other browsers to match it's features. So, if you want easier programming and better browser features try and use this browser.

  • Netscape 6.01 is a good choice for a Java browser. Netscape 6.01 comes loaded with the latest Java runtime environment. If they only had a way to go full screen in Java.
  • Applets appear to load slowly only in Internet Explorer. IE does not preload Java 1.3.
